I am a seasoned psychologist with over 25 years of clinical experience. Most of my clients come to me because they need support navigating significant hardships in daily life. They have often tried different medications or therapies in the past, but they are still struggling. I have an extensive background working with clients who have been historically marginalized or have struggled with serious mental illness.
I am trained to provide evaluations and assessments for the courts as well as social services and legal agencies. I have also worked in private practice for over twenty years. All of these positions have strengthened both my conceptualization skills and my ability to provide competent, skills-based treatment. Over the years, I have held various clinical and operational leadership roles. These roles have largely guided my deep understanding of working with systems of care. I have strong insight into the barriers people can face when seeking and making changes.
I train, educate, and lead others in the practices of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with influence from somatic therapies. My approach to therapy is both effective and skillful — I value helping clients expand their internal awareness and feel more proactive in daily life.
I am known for believing in my clients, even when they do not believe in themselves. I also aim to help people who feel hopeless find purpose and meaning. Trust and authenticity are essential cornerstones within the therapeutic relationship. With that in mind, I always treat clients as whole people with complex needs and feelings- you are not just a sum of your behaviors or your past. That said, learning more about why you do what you do is the first step toward profound change. Having a supportive therapist makes a meaningful difference within this transformation.
Many of my clients first come to me amid significant psychological distress. They may not know where else to turn, but they know something needs to change. My therapy specialties include high-conflict situations, including divorce, serious mental illness, chronic suicidal ideation, justice-involved individuals, PTSD, and the LGBTQ+ population. I have a rich background in the peer support movement, and I deeply value the benefits of strengths-based language and lived experience. You are the expert in your own life, and I am here to support you in your growth.
My main goal is to ultimately help my clients reach their true potential. Some providers focus exclusively on the problems, which can perpetuate more helplessness or suffering. However, I view problems as necessary obstacles to deal with and overcome, giving you space to focus on building more meaning and joy. You deserve to feel supported and cared for, and I would be honored to hear your story and help you live the life you desire.
